This winter is very cold. In the coldest January, a heavy snowfall with a cold current that never happened in the past over 50 years attacked Beijing. The snow remains and is frozen on the ground, and the vehicles and peoples in the streets are less than before. But there is still a warm current flowing in our Beijing Youth Development Foundation and Beijing Donation Center of Hope Project.
In the afternoon of January 14, with a knock at the door, we received the first donator, an 84-years-old woman named Shi Luyi. Madam Shi came to here for donation to “Sending Warmness in Spring Festival & Valentine’s Day” co-organized by Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and Beijing Youth Development Foundation. Madam Shi was the first individual donator of “Sending Warmness in Spring Festival & Valentine’s Day” activity in this year. We wanted to make interview with her, but we were refused. Madam Shi said she had been a cadre of Committee of the Communist Youth League and she just did what she should do.
Later, through inquiries from many channels we finally contacted this elder. On the phone, we know she was a retried cadre of Beijing Unicom, she had taken as Secretary of Beiping Telecom Bureau Branch of CPC, Depute Director of Political Department of Beijing Telecom Bureau, Director of Office of Party Committee and some other important position. She had participated in “Hungry Workers” battle and “Protecting Factory” movements of Beiping Telecom.
On March 27, 1949, just after peaceful liberation of Beiping, led by General Branch of CPC, Beiping Telecom Bureau held a League Member Meeting and selected the first league organization in staff of all city. The Beiping Telecom Bureau General Branch of Communist Youth League was founded 6 months earlier than Founding Ceremony. Beiping Telecom was the former body of Beijing Unicom, and Madam Shi Luyi was selected as the first secretary at that time. From 1949 to 1958, Madam Shi strived for undertaking of communist youth league for years with profound affection.
She told us, on the paper, she knew about that Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League was organizing “Sending Warmness in Spring Festival & Valentine’s Day” activity in order to help those special adolescents who needed our care and help. As a former cadre of Committee of the Communist Youth League, she hoped she could give a hand. So she arrived at our center to donate money.
I am a new member of Beijing Youth Development Foundation, but I have heard many stories about donation. Every story moved me, inspired me. Madam Shi has left her position in Committee of the Communist Youth League for several decades, but she always care about the undertaking of Committee of the Communist Youth League and the development of youth undertaking. As an elder, she donated money alone in such cold bad weather. I think what she did just like a warm current in cold Beijing. Around me, there are so many beneficences and cares, I feel warm….
My dear friends, Chinese people traditionally are ready to help others and willing to give their hands to the people in trouble. We are enjoying sunshine, warmness and happiness, but there are some special adolescent groups who need our care and help, may be struggle in the bottom of the life. Let’s give them our hands. Maybe we can change their life with a little effort. Let’s create a holy aura with our hearts to protect their way to growth, and make hope rising again and warm current flowing forever!
